I used to coach a U-15 Travel team (and worked with the ODP team) in RIC


in the early 90s. When I took the team, in my first meeting with the parents, I told them I only want to hear cheering for the team, no individual cheering for their own kid, no coaching from the sideline of any kid, and to leave the referees alone, as that was MY job. I was ejected only once. 😎👍🏻 They were a great group of parents and mostly followed those standards! My kids only lost 2 games during the yr plus I had them (2 seasons, 2 tournament championships and State Cup qtr-final) - one league play game to the U-14 State Cup champion playing an age up (coached by Oliver Weiss, pre VT gig), and lost in the State Cup qtr final to the eventual State Cup winner. Awesome kids - not a single “individual” superstar - just a bunch of interchangeable team players. I did a lot of refereeing back in those days too, as well as playing on a men’s team - my daily wardrobe was soccer gear. 😎👍🏻
